The current leadership, characteristic of 20th century Civil
Rights ideas, has not recognized that the dominant struggle facing African
Americans in the 21st century is Wealth Acquisition.
While they rely on the prominence they attained through the Civil Rights
movement in the 20th century, the current African American
leadership appear to be ill-equipped to foster the conditions necessary for
Wealth-Acquisition. As a result, many members of the African American
community have lost faith in the leadership and consequently lost the hope
that they will be able to attain wealth and meet the challenges of
their communities.
The evident suggest that they have failed to demonstrate
that they have the vision, insight, or strategies to address this 21st
Century issue of wealth creation. As a result there is no clear direction
for the community, and the people continue to struggle.
Covington believes that new leadership, with tested and
effective Wealth-Acquisition strategies, is necessary to carry our community
into the 21st Century. Only new leadership, fresh thinking, and a focus on
wealth-generation can restore the faith of our community in its leadership
and rejuvenate the hope for solving the problems of our communities. Leadership requires a
vision, an ability to garner widespread support for that vision, and the
wisdom to know when changes to the first two qualities are necessary. |
