The Civil Rights movement was never meant to create wealth. The Silver
Rights movement, on the other hand, has this as its singular objective.
African Americans must shift their attention to the principal challenge they
face – the acquisition and management of wealth. Covington believes
that the most dominant issue facing African Americans in the 21st Century is
that of Wealth Acquisition, and he is leading the effort to help the African
American community meet the demands of this 21st Century Challenge.
The Civil Rights movement has ended, but the need for
civil rights organizations has not. The character of civil rights
organizations, as a result, must change. We have made profound advances
since Brown v. Board of Education more than fifty years ago. Through this
half century, though, African Americans have not accumulated wealth at the
same rate as other Americans.
African Americans have proliferated in every area but
wealth creation. We have more buying power than any other minority group in
the United States. There are more black elected officials, professionals,
and college graduates as well. The foundation for wealth-creation therefore
has been established.
The Civil
Rights Movement created economic opportunities, and now the Silver
Rights Movement must create the vehicle for seizing them.
